Jizerskohorská železnice to receive modernized RegioSpider fleet
České dráhy is modernizing the Jizerskohorská železnice (Jizera Mountains Railway) service starting this December. The fleet will expand to 24 RegioSpider units, combining 15 existing series 840 vehicles with nine newly acquired and modernized series 841.3 units.
The new series 841.3 vehicles were originally operated by a German carrier and have undergone modernization at the DPOV facility in Přerov. These units feature air conditioning, low-floor access, Wi-Fi, power outlets, and automated passenger counting systems. They also include new contactless ticket terminals for the IDOL integrated transport system.
Under the new operational model, the series 841.3 units will serve the lines from Liberec to the Frýdlant region, while the series 840 units will continue to operate the Liberec to Harrachov and Szklarska Poręba route. The older Regionov trains will be relegated to backup roles for extraordinary situations. While the new units are highly equipped, they are not approved for the cog railway section to Kořenov, which remains the domain of the specialized series 840 units.
