České dráhy regional rail modernization

České dráhy is implementing a modernization of regional rail services across different Czech regions using RegioSpider railcars.

In the Mělník region, the company is introducing 21 modernized units to replace older motor coaches. The rollout began in August with the arrival of the first five units in Nymburk and subsequent driver training. These units, which feature air conditioning, improved suspension, and approximately 65 percent low-floor accessibility, are scheduled to enter regular service on lines such as the S23, S30, and S35 throughout the autumn.

Simultaneously, the Jizera Mountains Railway (Jizerskohorská železnice) is preparing to expand its fleet to 24 RegioSpider units starting in December. This fleet will consist of 15 existing series 840 vehicles and nine newly modernized series 841.3 units. The 841.3 units, which were previously operated by a German carrier, have been upgraded with Wi-Fi, power outlets, and contactless ticket terminals. While the new units will serve the Liberec to Frýdlant lines, the specialized series 840 units will remain responsible for the cog railway section to Kořenov.
