JMAS initiates major water supply program and fines influencer in Ciudad Juárez
The municipal water authority (Junta Municipal de Agua y Saneamiento, JMAS) in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, confirmed Alberto Paredes Arroyo as its permanent director after serving as interim following the fatal accident of his predecessor.
JMAS launched the "Agua para Todos en Los Kilómetros" initiative, a 110‑million‑peso program ordered by Governor Maru Campos to provide free drinking water to more than 6,000 families across 12 colonias. The project adds piped water trucks, purification modules, elevated storage tanks, and a 5,000‑cubic‑metre reservoir, with a goal of delivering 1.6 million litres daily and installing 3,000 household water tanks by July.
The agency also imposed two fines totaling 33,000 pesos on viral social‑media personality José Bélico for repeatedly wasting water and illegally reconnecting to the supply after service cuts. Officials said a physical disconnection will be carried out to prevent further illicit reconnections.
