JMAS Juárez completes 26.1 million peso drainage project
The Junta de Agua y Saneamiento de Juárez (JMAS) has completed a major hydraulic infrastructure project in the Olimpia neighborhood, addressing drainage issues that had persisted for over 40 years.
With a total investment of 26.1 million pesos, the project involved two primary stages. The first stage focused on rehabilitating the sanitary drainage system, which included replacing the Apolo collector with 2,700 meters of new PVC piping and updating 214 domestic connections and discharges.
The second stage implemented a rainwater catchment system at the intersection of Apolo and Atlante streets, featuring 200 meters of gutters, two desanding tanks, and two infiltration vaults. This system separates rainwater from the sanitary sewer to prevent flooding.
As a result of the intervention, flood depths in the area have been reduced from 70 centimeters to approximately 5 centimeters, with water clearing within 12 hours. The work benefits approximately 2,688 residents across the Olimpia, Minerva, and Stockmeyer neighborhoods.
