Mexican municipal infrastructure and public works projects
Overview
Municipal governments across various Mexican regions continue implementing diverse infrastructure and public works projects to improve sanitation, mobility, and flood prevention. In northern regions such as Ciudad Juárez, significant hydraulic projects have been completed to address long-standing flooding issues. A 26.1 million peso project on Apolo Street, completed by the Junta Central de Agua y Saneamiento (JCAS) and JMAS Juárez, replaced a collector with 2.7 kilometers of PVC pipe and added rainwater catchment systems, reducing flood depths from 70 centimeters to approximately 5 centimeters in the Olimpia, Minerva, and Stockmeyer neighborhoods. Additionally, maintenance is scheduled for the Tarento sewage pumping plant in Ciudad Juárez.
In Torreón, the SimasTorreón agency is executing a strategy to renew approximately 50 percent of the city’s 96 water pumps to stabilize the potable water supply. Mayor Miguel Ángel Riquelme Solís reported that this initiative, which utilizes new package pumps and piping replacement to minimize service interruptions, has already decreased water shortage reports. The upcoming interconnection of the Pozo Periodistas is expected to reinforce supply in southeastern sectors, such as the Latinoamericano neighborhood.
In Chiapas, municipal administrations are advancing paving and sanitation works. In La Cruz, investments exceed 10 million pesos for hydraulic concrete paving and integrated utility systems on Victoriano Alcántar Street, alongside other projects in Estación La Cruz and the completion of asphalt paving on Joaquín Ortega Street. In San Cristóbal de Las Casas, authorities have launched construction for sanitary drainage lines and hydraulic concrete paving on Fresno, Durango, and Buganvilia streets in the Santa Cruz El Pinar community to enhance local mobility.
