Jnim releases approximately 60 civilians in western Mali

The militant group Jnim released approximately sixty civilians between August 13 and August 14 in western Mali. The captives, who were abducted from various roads, have since reunited with their families in Nioro, Kayes, and Bamako.

This release occurred alongside the liberation of 82 Malian soldiers held by the Front de libération de l’Azawad (FLA), an ally of Jnim. The military personnel had been in captivity since the fall of Kidal in late April.

While the releases were conducted discreetly without official communication from Malian authorities or the militant groups, the Jnim continues to maintain a blockade on several road axes connecting Bamako to the port of Dakar. The lack of public statements has led to speculation regarding potential behind-the-scenes negotiations between the Malian government and the armed groups.
