Joan Mir to miss MotoGP Japan and Indonesia due to health issues

Honda HRC has confirmed that MotoGP rider Joan Mir will miss the upcoming Grand Prix races in Japan and Indonesia due to ongoing health issues. Mir, the 2020 world champion, has been experiencing various symptoms for several months that impact his energy and performance, with a recent increase in severity.

Following his retirement from the San Marino Grand Prix and absence from the Austrian Grand Prix, Mir underwent medical examinations at Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona. While blood tests revealed altered parameters, a definitive diagnosis has not yet been reached. MotoGP chief medical officer Dr. Angel Charte has advised Mir to observe strict rest and undergo rehabilitation for at least 15 days.

For the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi, Honda has named Somkiat Chantra as Mir's replacement. Chantra, a Thai rider currently in the World Superbike championship, will return to MotoGP for this event. Takaaki Nakagami, who previously replaced Mir in Austria, is scheduled to participate in the Japanese race as a wildcard for the Honda Test Team. Honda has not yet confirmed a replacement for the subsequent Indonesian Grand Prix.
