Joan Mir health-related MotoGP absences

Overview

MotoGP rider Joan Mir has been forced to withdraw from multiple races due to health concerns. Initially, it was reported that Mir would miss the Austrian Grand Prix due to “health-related alterations.”

As the situation progressed, it was confirmed that the Honda rider would also miss the upcoming Grand Prix races in Japan and Indonesia. Medical examinations at Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona revealed “altered blood test parameters,” although a definitive diagnosis remains undetermined.

Dr. Angel Charte, the MotoGP medical director, noted that Mir has faced symptoms for several months affecting his energy and performance, with recent symptoms increasing in severity. Following medical advice, Mir has been prescribed approximately 15 days of strict rest and rehabilitation.

Honda Racing Corporation has not yet guaranteed a return date, even for the Australian Grand Prix in late October. For the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi, Honda has named Somkiat Chantra, a Thai rider currently in the World Superbike championship, as Mir’s replacement. Additionally, Takaaki Nakagami, who previously replaced Mir in Austria, is scheduled to participate in the Japanese race as a wildcard for the Honda Test Team. Honda has not yet confirmed a replacement for the subsequent Indonesian Grand Prix.
