Flemington hosts Cox Plate as Spring Champion Stakes approaches

Cox Plate Flemington Racecourse Spring Champion Stakes horse racing Randwick

The Cox Plate is being held at Flemington Racecourse this year due to the 21-month closure and $250 million rebuild of Moonee Valley. The weight-for-age championship features a $6 million total purse, with a $4 million first-prize share at stake. Trainer Joe Pride is among those eyeing a victory with Ceolwulf, despite the venue change.

Separately, the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes is set to take place at Randwick. Jockey Ash Morgan has expressed confidence in Persian Wonder, a horse trained by David Payne, noting that the gelding is at its peak and should handle the 2000-metre distance. Other notable contenders in the field include Diameter, Cormier, and Scarole.
