Joe Root sets multiple Test cricket records against Pakistan
England captain Joe Root has achieved multiple historic milestones during the first Test against Pakistan at Headingley. By scoring 66 runs in the first innings, Root reached his 68th Test half-century, equaling the world record held by Sachin Tendulkar for the most fifties in Test cricket history.
In addition to the batting milestone, Root set a new record for fielding. He recorded his 219th Test catch, becoming the most successful non-wicketkeeper fielder in the 149-year history of Test cricket, surpassing the previous record of 218 held by Australia’s Steven Smith.
Root also climbed the rankings for most 50-plus scores as a Test captain. His performance at Headingley marked his 42nd innings of 50 or more while captaining, placing him fifth on the all-time list of captains, ahead of figures such as Clive Lloyd and Ricky Ponting. His innings helped England establish a significant first-innings lead over Pakistan.
