Joe Root reaches 23,000 international runs milestone
England batter Joe Root has become the first English player to surpass 23,000 international runs. He reached the milestone during the opening One Day International (ODI) against Sri Lanka at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.
Root is only the eighth player in cricket history to achieve this feat, joining an elite group that includes Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Ricky Ponting, Rahul Dravid, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, and Jacques Kallis. Notably, Root reached the mark in 521 innings, slightly faster than Sachin Tendulkar, who required 522 innings.
In addition to this milestone, Root has recently set other records, including becoming the first player to score more than 2,000 runs in the fourth innings of Test matches and surpassing Tendulkar for the most half-centuries in Test cricket.
