Joe Root surpasses Sachin Tendulkar in international run milestone
England Test captain Joe Root has become the second fastest batter to reach 23,000 international runs across all formats, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar. Root is the first English player to achieve this milestone and joins an elite group of cricketers, including Virat Kohli, Kumar Sangakkara, and Rahul Dravid, to cross the mark.
Reflecting on his career and recent milestones, Root recalled his earliest memories of watching Test cricket at Headingley. As a child with the Rotherham Town cricket club, he witnessed India’s dominant performance during their 2002 tour of England. During that match, Indian batters including Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid scored centuries, leading India to a significant innings-and-46-run victory.
