Johann Zarco recounts Barcelona crash, fears permanent injury
French MotoGP rider Johann Zarco described the harrowing crash at the Barcelona circuit that left his left leg trapped between the swingarm and exhaust of a teammate's bike and caused severe burns. He said, "I just hoped I would be able to walk again," recalling the marshals' hesitation to move him for fear of worsening the fracture.
During rehabilitation Zarco found unexpected inspiration in fellow Spaniard Marc Márquez, noting, "When I saw Marc suffer like that, I realised how tough he really is." The rider emphasized his decision to prioritize a full recovery over a speedy return, helped by a secured Honda contract through the 2027 season. LCR Honda reports his rehab is progressing faster than expected, targeting a comeback by September.
