Zarco recovery updates, Crutchlow rides at Silverstone
Entities: Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya · Honda Motor Co. · Johann Zarco · LCR Honda Team · Marc Márquez
Overview
Johann Zarco’s crash at the 2024 Catalan Grand Prix caused torn knee ligaments, a meniscus tear, ankle damage and a tibia burn. Initial advice favored surgery, but a non‑surgical rehab program was approved in July 2024, aiming for a September 2024 return. By mid‑2026 the ligaments continued to improve, and Zarco set a comeback target of September 2026 at Misano.
On 13 July 2026 Zarco reported that two knee ligaments were “healing very, very well – a bit of a miracle,” after his leg was caught in Francesco Bagnaia’s rear wheel during the Barcelona incident. Light training resumed and he planned to return to bike work in August, hoping to be race‑fit before season’s end.
A further interview on 28 July 2026 saw Zarco recount the Barcelona crash in detail, saying he feared a permanent injury and recalling marshals’ hesitation to move him. He cited Marc Márquez’s own injury battle as motivation to focus on a full recovery rather than a swift return. With a Honda contract secured through 2027, LCR Honda noted his rehabilitation was progressing faster than expected and reaffirmed a September comeback goal.
Meanwhile, Cal Crutchlow continues as LCR’s stand‑in for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The 40‑year‑old substitute has logged extensive cycling mileage and achieved a best finish of 16th in Hungary and the Netherlands, though he has yet to score points. Zarco will miss the race and will face a double long‑lap penalty on his first start back.
