JOHESU mobilises health workers over 13-year salary delay

The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) has begun nationwide mobilisation for potential industrial action against the Nigerian federal government. The dispute centers on the failure to implement the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) adjustment, a demand that has remained unresolved for approximately 13 years.

During an emergency National Executive Council meeting held on October 29, 2026, union leaders Comrade Kabiru Minjibir and Comrade Martin Egbanubi stated that the union will no longer tolerate delays. The union noted that while President Bola Tinubu promised to actualise the adjustment in June 2023, the process has stalled. JOHESU accused the government of using the inability of the Presidential Committee on Salaries (PCS) to meet as an excuse for the continued delay.
