Nigerian health workers salary dispute

Overview

The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) has initiated nationwide mobilization for potential industrial action against the Nigerian federal government. The dispute concerns the failure to implement the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) adjustment, a demand that has reportedly remained unresolved for approximately 13 years.

Union leaders, including Comrade Kabiru Minjibir and Comrade Martin Egbanubi, stated that the union will no longer tolerate delays. While President Bola Tinubu reportedly promised to actualize the adjustment in June 2023, the process has stalled. JOHESU has accused the government of using the inability of the Presidential Committee on Salaries (PCS) to meet as an excuse for the continued delay.
