JOHESU threatens nationwide strike over salary structure delays

The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) has threatened potential industrial action across Nigeria due to the prolonged delay in adjusting the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS). The union issued this warning following an emergency National Executive Council meeting held on October 29, 2026.

JOHESU leadership, including National Chairman Kabiru Minjibir and National Secretary Martin Egbanubi, directed members to begin mobilization across health institutions nationwide. The union described the CONHESS adjustment as one of the oldest unresolved demands in the history of organized labor, noting it has remained outstanding for approximately 13 years.

The union expressed dissatisfaction with the government's pace regarding the implementation, citing previous assurances from President Bola Tinubu. JOHESU stated it would resist any attempts to frustrate the adjustment process, emphasizing that the time for implementation is critical.
