John Hickenlooper Wins Colorado Democratic Senate Primary

Incumbent U.S. Sen. John Hickenlooper secured the Democratic nomination for Colorado’s Senate seat, defeating progressive challenger State Sen. Julie Gonzales. The Associated Press called the race within minutes after preliminary results showed Hickenlooper leading with 57% of the vote, later settling at about 52.9% statewide, roughly 51,000 votes ahead.

Hickenlooper’s strength came from the Western Slope and many mountain counties, where he captured 60‑73% of the vote, while Gonzales performed better on the Front Range, winning Denver with over 54%. The two candidates never debated; Hickenlooper cited a busy schedule, and Gonzales criticized the lack of a public forum.
