Johnny Depp to star in dark ‘Ebenezer’ remake

Paramount Pictures has released new trailers and promotional material for ‘Ebenezer’, a dark fantasy adaptation of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’. Directed by Ti West, the film stars Johnny Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge, marking his return to a major Hollywood studio leading role for the first time since 2018.

The film is described as a spooky, supernatural take on the classic tale, featuring elements such as Scrooge being haunted by the ghost of Jacob Marley and even being buried alive. The ensemble cast includes Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint, Daisy Ridley, Andrea Riseborough, and Sam Claflin.

Scheduled for release in November 2026, the production aims to provide additional backstory regarding Scrooge’s life and his transformation into a misanthrope. This project follows a series of smaller-budgeted films for Depp and is viewed as a significant moment for his career as a major box office draw.
