Johnny Depp Ebenezer film production

Overview

Paramount Pictures is producing ‘Ebenezer’, a reimagining of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ directed by Ti West. The project marks a significant return to major Hollywood studio films for Johnny Depp, who stars as Ebenezer Scrooge.

Initial reports describe the film as a dark and gothic supernatural horror, utilizing the tagline “The name you know, the story you don’t” to highlight its sinister atmosphere. Subsequent information characterizes the film as a holiday comedy that intends to expand upon the classic tale by providing additional backstory regarding the life and family of Scrooge.

The ensemble cast includes Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Daisy Ridley, Sam Claflin, Charlie Murphy, Madelyn Cline, and Penélope Cruz. While early reports suggested a November 2026 theatrical release, later updates indicate the film is scheduled for March 2027.

New promotional material and trailers released in October 2026 describe the project as a “spooky, supernatural take” on the classic tale. The footage highlights elements such as Scrooge being haunted by the ghost of Jacob Marley and even being buried alive. The production aims to explore Scrooge’s transformation into a misanthrope, marking Depp’s first major studio leading role since 2018.
