Johor DUN Dissolved, State Election Set Amid Calls for Stability
The Johor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) with 56 seats was officially dissolved on 1 June 2026, clearing the way for the 16th Johor state election (PRN). The dissolution was announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi after receiving consent from the Pemangku Sultan. The Election Commission (SPR) will convene a special meeting to determine key dates once it receives formal notice of the dissolution.
Barisan Nasional’s Johor spokesperson Md Israk Abdullah warned that Johor must not become a political experiment, urging voters to choose a stable, experienced government to continue development programmes. Meanwhile, DAP state assemblywoman Marina Ibrahim from Skudai said she will not contest the upcoming election, withdrawing from electoral politics to focus on community work.
Both the dissolution and the statements highlight the heightened political activity in the state ahead of the election, with parties urging stability while individual lawmakers reassess their roles.
