The 16th Johor State Election (PRN) is in full swing, with campaigning set to conclude on 11 July 2026. Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders, including Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, stress a “decorous” campaign focused on policies and youth outreach rather than personal attacks. Across constituencies, BN candidate Onn Hafiz Ghazi seeks a return as Menteri Besar, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates such as Suhaizan Kayat hold town‑hall meetings in DUN Larkin, emphasizing harmony.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was reportedly barred from using a Johor government community centre in Muar for a meeting with fishermen, farmers and educators, prompting PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim to question whether the denial was politically motivated. In a related incident, the Johor Menteri Besar allegedly prevented entry to a Felda settlement, a claim Anwar denies.

The Islamic Party (PAS) instructed its members to vote for BN where Perikatan Nasional (PN) does not field candidates, drawing criticism from PH leader Aminolhuda Hassan as contradictory to PAS’s earlier stance.

The Election Commission (SPR) has issued 24,677 postal ballot papers for eligible voters, including overseas Malaysians, ahead of the election. The vote involves approximately 2.7 million registered voters and is seen as pivotal for the state’s development agenda and its impact on the federal‑state power balance.
