Johor state election: PN doubts forming government, PH candidate accuses BN of fearmongering

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said Perikatan Nasional (PN) may not be able to form the Johor state government after the election on July 11, but the coalition hopes to win enough seats to act as an effective opposition. He emphasized the need for checks and balances on the ruling administration and highlighted the rising cost of living as a major concern for voters. Early voting took place ahead of the main poll.

Pakatan Harapan candidate Khuzzan Abu Bakar, contesting the Semerah seat, accused Barisan Nasional chairman Onn Hafiz Ghazi of fearmongering by linking a vote for him to a vote for the Democratic Action Party (DAP). Khuzzan said his campaign focuses on justice, good governance, job opportunities, housing and the cost of living, urging voters to judge candidates on their track record rather than party labels. Both contests involve three‑cornered fights with candidates from PN, BN and PH.
