Johor state election slated after 2026 assembly dissolution; eight parties join PN coalition

The Johor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) was officially dissolved on 1 June 2026 after approval from the Sultan of Johor. Under Malaysian law the next state election must be held within 60 days, though the exact polling date has not yet been announced by the Election Commission.

Eight opposition parties – Pejuang, Muda, Berjasa, Putra, KIMMA, MAP, Iman and Urimai – have formed an electoral pact with Perikatan Nasional (PN) to contest the upcoming election. Party spokesperson Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said the poll will be the first test of the PN‑plus alliance and of voter acceptance across ethnic groups. He added, “Pelaksanaan ‘electoral pact’ bersama parti‑parti bukan anggota dalam IPR adalah antara perkara yang belum teruji…”, and noted that negotiations on seat allocations are about 80 % complete, with the remaining 20 % still under discussion.
