Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo arrived in Maumere, Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday to visit communities affected by the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck the region on August 15, 2026.

Upon arriving at Frans Seda Airport, Widodo was welcomed by Sikka Regent Juventus Prima Yoris Kago with traditional Flores cultural ceremonies. Following his arrival in Maumere, Widodo traveled by land to Ropa Port and then by boat to Palue Island. He arrived at Palue Island around 6:45 PM local time, where he was met by local residents and traditional leaders with customary dances and ceremonial cloths.

During the visit, Widodo aims to assess the living conditions of earthquake victims and ensure the distribution of aid to displaced persons. He was accompanied by Kaesang Pangarep, the Chairman of the PSI party, and other officials. The visit is part of a broader agenda to review post-disaster situations in the region.
