Jon M. Chu provides update on Britney Spears biopic

Director Jon M. Chu has provided an update on the upcoming Britney Spears biopic, stating that the project is still in its early stages. Speaking at the opening of the George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles, Chu revealed that the production is currently focused on developing the screenplay rather than casting.

Chu noted that he is not yet considering actors for the lead role, despite receiving hundreds of audition submissions from around the world. He emphasized the priority of “trying to get the story right” before finalizing the cast. The film is based on Spears’ 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me,” with Liz Meriwether currently writing the screenplay.

Universal Pictures holds the film rights, and Marc Platt is serving as a producer. Chu indicated that Spears will have an active role in the production, though he remained vague regarding the extent of her direct involvement in the creative process.
