Jon Rahm to exit LIV Golf after rejecting LIV 2.0 terms

Jon Rahm has announced his departure from LIV Golf, citing the terms of the proposed LIV 2.0 relaunch as “unacceptable.” His attorney, John Beck, communicated this decision during a bankruptcy court hearing in New Jersey. Rahm, who has been a central figure for the league since joining in late 2023, is currently in advanced negotiations with LIV to reach a consensual separation agreement, with a target resolution date of mid-October.

The announcement comes as LIV Golf attempts to restructure following its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in September, triggered by the withdrawal of financial support from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. The proposed LIV 2.0 model involves a shift toward player ownership and a reduced schedule of ten events. While BC Partners Credit has projected a $300 million investment to support this relaunch, the loss of a marquee talent like Rahm presents a significant setback to the league’s credibility.

Separately, Rahm has also withdrawn from the 2026 Open de España. This absence is attributed to the imminent birth of his fourth child. As a three-time winner of the tournament, his absence is noted as a major loss for the event held at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
