Jonas Vingegaard undergoes successful collarbone surgery, season in doubt
Jonas Vingegaard crashed on a left‑hand curve about 20 km from the finish of Stage 15 of the Tour de France, suffering a fractured collarbone. He was taken to the ambulance, withdrawn from the race and later flown to Denmark for surgery. Team Visma‑Lease a Bike confirmed the operation was successful, describing it as routine and stating that “they did what they had to do.”
The team has not set a timetable for his return and indicated that his participation in the remainder of the season is uncertain; Vingegaard may miss the Vuelta a España and possibly the rest of the year. Teammate Sepp Kuss said the crash was a disappointment but warned against defining Vingegaard’s career by this setback. The race continued with Remco Evenepoel winning the stage and the following time trial. Visma‑Lease a Bike said it will discuss further plans with Vingegaard after the Tour.
