Brazil 2026 elections: Polling shows tight races in Bahia and Pernambuco

As the 2026 elections approach in Brazil, various regional political developments and polling data have emerged. In Bahia, polling shows a technical tie for the governorship between ACM Neto (39%) and Jerônimo Rodrigues (37%), with a second-round simulation placing Neto at 44% to Rodrigues' 41%. For the Senate, Rui Costa (23%) and Jaques Wagner (17%) lead the race.

In Pernambuco, João Campos (PSB) is strengthening his campaign, recently recruiting Mariah Queiroz from the federal government to bolster his digital strategy. Campos has proposed creating regional Women's Centers to expand protection and autonomy services. Meanwhile, polling in Pará shows Hana Ghassan (MDB) leading with 37.2% against Dr. Daniel Santos (31.3%) in a stimulated scenario.

Nationwide, the Electoral Public Ministry has contested 974 candidacy registrations due to issues such as criminal convictions, administrative improbity, and political/economic abuse of power. Most challenges target state and federal deputy candidates, with São Paulo seeing the highest number of impugnations. In Amazonas, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva leads the presidential race with 46% against Flávio Bolsonaro's 34% in a stimulated poll.

Other notable movements include the support of political and artistic leaders for Jones Manoel's federal deputy bid in Pernambuco, and the announcement of Rômulo Mendonça as a new sports commentator for UOL.
