João Campos Secures Party Endorsements for Pernambuco Governorship

On 4 August 2026, the Christian Democracy (Democracia Cristã) party announced its support for João Campos of the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) in the race for governor of Pernambuco. Party president Marcos Paiva said the decision followed an evaluation of the candidates’ projects and consultations with state and national party structures, as well as discussions with Governor Raquel Lyra (PSD). He stated that João Campos “has the best conditions to govern the state.”

The same day, the Mobiliza party also formalized its backing of João Campos at its state convention. Mobiliza’s state president Belarmino Silva said the party was not formally part of Governor Lyra’s base and made an autonomous choice, approved unanimously by its leadership. João Campos was represented at the event by his vice‑governor candidate Carlos Costa (Republicans). The endorsements expand the “Frente Popular” coalition ahead of the upcoming Pernambuco election.
