João Monlevade begins revitalization of Wilson Alvarenga walk and bike path

The municipality of João Monlevade will start works next week to renovate the 1.6‑kilometre walking track and adjacent bike lane on Avenida Wilson Alvarenga in the Belmonte neighbourhood. The project, budgeted at R$ 995,651.89, is being carried out by JMD Construções Ltda. About R$ 983,521.92 of the funding comes from the Ministry of Cities via a parliamentary amendment proposed by federal deputy Hercílio Diniz (MDB), with the remaining R$ 12,129.97 provided by the city.

The works, scheduled for completion in four months, will repair the pavement, repaint the cycle‑lane, improve sidewalks, revitalize planting beds and install new urban furniture such as trash cans and bus shelters. Signage will be placed along the route, and motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are urged to heed the warnings and avoid isolated sections for safety during construction. The upgraded space aims to offer residents a safer, more comfortable and accessible area for walking, cycling and physical activity.
