João Monlevade municipal infrastructure upgrades

Overview

In late July 2026 the municipality of João Monlevade began a four‑month renovation of a 1.6‑km walking and bike path on Avenida Wilson Alvarenga, funded largely by the Ministry of Cities and a small municipal contribution. The work includes pavement repair, new signage, upgraded sidewalks, planting beds and urban furniture.

A few weeks later, in early August, the city completed a retaining wall and street repairs in the Loanda neighbourhood. The project, carried out by the municipal Secretariat of Works, fulfills a long‑standing local demand and is part of a broader plan to build nine containment structures across João Monlevade to stabilise slopes and protect public infrastructure.
