João Pessoa City Hall Boosts LGBTQIA+ Policies at National Forum in São Paulo

The municipal government of João Pessoa, through its Coordenadoria de Promoção à Cidadania LGBT, took part in the closing session of the National Forum of State and Municipal Managers for LGBTQIA+ Public Policies in São Paulo on 6‑7 June 2026. The forum, held at the Pinacoteca, featured debates and training on “Institutional Strengthening and Political Incidence for the Defense of LGBT Rights.”

Geraldo Filho, representing João Pessoa, said the event was valuable for gaining information and connecting with other officials crafting policies for a historically excluded population. He noted that Brazil records the world’s highest number of murders of LGBTQIA+ people, underscoring the importance of visibility. The forum precedes the annual São Paulo Pride Parade on 28 June, which brings together thousands of activists, organizers and officials from across Brazil.
