João Pessoa commercial center fire caused by short circuit

A Fire Department report has determined that a short circuit caused by an electrical system overload triggered the fire at the Centro Comercial de Passagem in João Pessoa. The incident occurred on the afternoon of August 27 at the commercial center located in Parque Sólon de Lucena.

The fire completely destroyed four shops. At least seven people required medical attention for smoke inhalation, though no serious burns or life-threatening injuries were reported. While merchants noted that fire extinguishers were functional, they reported that the building's hydrants failed to work during the blaze.

The Municipal Secretariat of Urban Development confirmed that the city will undertake works to adapt the building's electrical network. A new electrical execution project is being developed to individualize the electrical systems for the commercial boxes.
