João Pessoa expands healthcare workforce through residencies and new staff

The city of João Pessoa is expanding its healthcare workforce through new recruitment and training initiatives. The Municipal Health Secretariat has opened a selection process for 89 vacancies in Medical and Multiprofessional Residency programs. These positions offer specialized training within the Unified Health System (SUS) in areas such as Family and Community Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Psychology.

Approved medical residents will receive monthly stipends from the Ministry of Health and collective housing support at the Santa Isabel Municipal Hospital. The residency programs are designed to provide practical and theoretical specialization over two to three years.

Additionally, Mayor Leo Bezerra has summoned 69 new Community Health Agents and Endemic Disease Combat Agents. This fifth wave of convocations follows a recent public competition and aims to increase health coverage across the municipality. These professionals will focus on disease prevention, family monitoring, and health promotion.
