João Pessoa healthcare workforce expansion

Overview

The city of João Pessoa is implementing several initiatives to expand its healthcare workforce. As part of a 2024 public contest, the Municipal Health Secretariat established a mandatory 40-hour training course for candidates summoned for Community Health Agent (ACS) and Endemic Disease Combat Agent (ACE) positions. Registration for this training was set to conclude on September 15, with classes scheduled to begin in early October.

In addition to these agent roles, the city has opened a selection process for 89 vacancies in Medical and Multiprofessional Residency programs. These programs offer specialization in fields such as Family and Community Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy within the Unified Health System (SUS). Approved residents are slated to receive monthly stipends and housing support at the Santa Isabel Municipal Hospital. These combined efforts, including a fifth wave of convocations for health agents, aim to increase disease prevention and health coverage across the municipality.
