João Pessoa inaugurates new Family Health Unit to expand primary care

Mayor Leo Bezerra has inaugurated a new Family Health Unit (USF) in the Gramame region of João Pessoa, serving approximately 16,000 residents across areas including Cidade Maravilhosa, Parque do Sol, Ipiranga, and parts of Valentina Figueiredo.

This facility marks the ninth USF built from the ground up by the municipal government. The initiative aims to eliminate uncovered areas in primary healthcare. According to the Municipal Health Secretariat, the number of people without primary care coverage in the city has dropped from approximately 200,000 in 2021 to about 40,000 following the delivery of these nine new units.

The new system includes digitized operations, with health agents equipped with tablets to allow immediate registration and direct data transmission to the Ministry of Health. The administration has stated its goal is to reach 100% healthcare coverage across the capital.
