João Pessoa expands housing program, delivers new apartments in Complexo Beira Rio

Mayor Leo Bezerra signed 30 new contracts for the municipal “Compra Assistida” scheme, raising the total of homes secured through the program to 224. The initiative lets low‑income families choose a property worth up to R$ 115 000, with the city covering legal fees and property‑tax exemptions. The program already benefits 160 families from São José, S‑no‑Roger and other neighborhoods, and 64 families from Santa Clara, Tito Silva and Padre Hildon Bandeira within the Complexo Beira Rio area.

On 22 July, groups of future residents toured completed modular apartments on Avenida Beira Rio as part of the “João Pessoa Sustentável” project. The visits, the first of four guided stages, allowed 79 families selected in March to inspect one‑, two‑ and three‑bedroom units and verify accessibility standards before official hand‑over. The municipal plan foresees 747 apartments along Avenida Beira Rio and an additional 32 units in the Santa Clara community, with modular designs that can be adapted to residents’ needs. A further lottery for remaining families is scheduled for 31 July.
