Jordan and Saudi Arabia coordinate to reduce regional escalation
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan held a telephone call on October 17, 2026, to discuss ways to de-escalate regional tensions and contain ongoing crises. The two ministers emphasized their solidarity in facing threats to their national security and stability, pledging continued coordination to protect the interests of their peoples.
During the discussion, Safadi reaffirmed Jordan’s condemnation of Houthi militia attacks against Saudi Arabia. The call follows a series of Houthi strikes throughout October targeting civilian and economic infrastructure, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and facilities belonging to Saudi Aramco. These attacks have resulted in casualties, including the deaths of Saudi nationals and a Jordanian citizen, as well as physical damage to airports and aircraft.
The UN Security Council has also condemned the continuous Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, specifically noting strikes against civil aviation and energy infrastructure.
