Jordan launches regular Amman‑Sana'a flights to aid Yemen humanitarian needs

Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Royal Jordanian Airlines will operate regular commercial flights between Amman and Sana'a. The move is framed as a response to the humanitarian needs of the Yemeni people and supports Saudi Arabia’s broader peace‑building efforts in Yemen.

The Yemeni government welcomed the initiative, pledging full facilitation and stating that the flights align with its own plans to operate Sana’a Airport safely via Yemenia Airways. UN Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg called the resumption a “positive step” for civilian travel under the 2022 UN cease‑fire. Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry also expressed support, urging the Houthi militia to cooperate and refrain from escalatory actions.

The Houthi authorities, however, denounced the flights as “trivial bids” and rejected the Jordanian announcement, accusing it of undermining their position. A source from the Sana’a negotiating delegation reiterated a demand for the airport to be opened without any restrictions or conditions. Technical and logistical arrangements are still underway, with no official start date announced.
