Jordan condemns continued settler incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque

Jordan has issued a strong condemnation regarding the continued incursions by extremist settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif. The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates described the recent incidents, including provocative practices and escalatory rhetoric from Israeli officials, as a blatant violation of the existing historical and legal status quo of the holy site.

Spokesperson Ambassador Fouad Al-Majali stated that these actions constitute a breach of international law and international humanitarian law. He warned that such provocations aim to impose new realities by attempting to partition the mosque temporally and spatially. Al-Majali emphasized that Israel holds no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem and its holy sites.

The Ministry called upon the international community to take a firm stance to compel Israel, as the occupying power, to cease irresponsible practices against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, as well as illegal measures in the occupied West Bank. Jordan reaffirmed that the Al-Aqsa Mosque, spanning 144 dunams, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Awqaf Department, under the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, holds the exclusive legal authority to manage its affairs and regulate access.
