Jordan Pickford at the heart of England's goalkeeper rule trial
Jordan Pickford remains a central figure for the England national football team, praised for his experience, reflexes and leadership as the side prepares for upcoming tournaments through 2026.
The English football authorities are considering a new rule aimed at limiting time‑wasting during medical treatment of goalkeepers. Under the proposal, when a medical team attends a goalkeeper, the coach must name a field player to leave the pitch for one minute within ten seconds, otherwise the team captain will be required to leave. Exceptions cover serious injuries such as bleeding or concussion. The rule, which awaits approval from the International Football Association Board (IFAB), will be trialled in the League Cup match between Tranmere Rovers and Rochdale on 1 August.
