Jordan protests U.S. troop presence as Iranian attacks intensify
Hundreds of Jordanian political, legal and civil actors signed an open letter demanding the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the kingdom, citing repeated Iranian missile and drone attacks on U.S. positions that have set off sirens and heightened security concerns.
At the same time, the United States has begun relocating troops and air‑force personnel from bases in Bahrain and Kuwait to more distant locations such as Jordan and Israel, responding to a surge in Iranian strikes across the Gulf region. Analysts say Tehran is deliberately escalating to push U.S. forces farther from its borders.
The troop movements have sparked renewed debate in Jordan over sovereignty, security and the role of foreign military presence, with activists warning of increased risk to civilians and tighter restrictions on dissent.
