Santiago Abascal rally in A Coruña ends in clashes and arrests

A political event held by Vox leader Santiago Abascal in A Coruña’s María Pita square resulted in violent clashes between protesters and police. Approximately 5,000 people gathered to demonstrate against the presence of the Vox leader, while around 300 supporters attended the rally.

Following the conclusion of the event, tensions escalated as demonstrators threw stones, chairs, and fireworks at security forces. The National Police responded with baton charges, rubber bullets, and tear gas to disperse the crowd. The clashes left dozens of protesters and twelve police officers injured, and two individuals were detained for public disorder and attacking authority figures.

Santiago Abascal characterized the protests as acts of coercion and violence, accusing the government of failing to protect his party's right to political expression. Meanwhile, participating organizations, including Galiza Nova and various student and housing unions, criticized the police response as disproportionate.
