BUAP advances regional water treatment project and registers 23,000 new students

Professor Jorge Alejandro Torres Jaramillo of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) is leading a regional water project in the state of Puebla. The initiative seeks to restore the ecological balance of the state's river basins by developing new wastewater‑treatment systems that use natural zeolites and physicochemical processes, aiming to secure potable water supplies and protect local ecosystems.

Rector Lilia Cedillo Ramírez supervised the enrollment of roughly 23,000 new undergraduate students for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 admission periods. Documents were collected at the Arena BUAP in Ciudad Universitaria, organized by the initial letter of each applicant's CURP, and students in mixed, semi‑school and distance modes must complete a mandatory online course in August.

State deputy Kathya Sánchez Rodríguez introduced a decree amendment to the Puebla Municipal Organic Law to strengthen municipal staff training on human rights, gender equality, non‑discrimination and inclusion, with the goal of improving public service delivery and safeguarding the rights of historically marginalized groups.
