Argentina political leaders signal moves for 2027 elections
Political figures across Argentina are beginning to define their strategies and candidacies for the 2027 electoral cycle. In Chaco, Senator Jorge Capitanich announced he will not seek re-election as governor, emphasizing the need for generational renewal within the Peronist movement. Potential successors in the province include Juan Manuel García and Magda Ayala.
In San Luis, Senator Bartolomé Abdala confirmed his intention to run for governor, citing it as his primary political goal. Meanwhile, in Mendoza, Governor Alfredo Cornejo’s ministers, Tadeo García Zalazar and Natalio Mema, have signaled their aspirations to succeed him.
On a national level, Deputy Miguel Ángel Pichetto proposed the creation of a ‘Frente Nacional’—a broad political alliance uniting Peronists, Radicals, and sectors of the PRO that do not support the current Milei administration. He emphasized the need for institutional quality and national unity to provide an electoral alternative.
Local dynamics are also shifting in Berisso, where the absence of a third term for current Mayor Fabián Cagliardi has prompted various leaders to position themselves, and in Brandsen, where Mayor Fernando Raitelli denied rumors of a rift within the local Peronist party.
