Jorge Jaller appointed Colombia's ambassador to Venezuela

Former Grupo Éxito executive Jorge Jaller, who spent over two decades building the retailer's commercial operations and most recently served as Vice President of Retail, was named by president‑elect Abelardo de la Espriella as Colombia's next ambassador to Venezuela. The appointment was announced on 20 July 2026 during an Independence Day ceremony in Medellín and is slated to replace Milton Rengifo. Jaller, known for launching the low‑cost "Éxito Wow" format and expanding online sales, joins the diplomatic team as Colombia seeks a new approach to its relationship with Venezuela.

His selection follows a broader government reshuffle, including the designation of former senator Carlos Felipe Mejía as ambassador to Spain, signaling the new administration's focus on economic and regional policy.
