Jorge Luis Alfonso López, alias El Gatico, recaptured in Barranquilla

Colombian authorities, specifically the Dijín unit, have recaptured Jorge Luis Alfonso López, known as alias El Gatico, in a clinic in Barranquilla. López is the son of the entrepreneur Enilce López, known as La Gata.

The arrest is linked to the 1997 homicide of Guillermo Montero Carpio, the former president of the National Association of Peasant Users (ANUC), which occurred in Sincelejo, Sucre. This investigation is being conducted by a specialized prosecutor under Law 600 of 2000.

López had been released on parole in December 2023 after serving 19 years in prison for aggravated homicide and conspiracy to commit a crime. His previous conviction relied on testimonies from former paramilitary member Nevis Consuelo Caballero.
