Colombian law enforcement recaptures fugitives
Overview
Colombian authorities have conducted separate operations to recapture individuals previously in custody or under judicial supervision.
In Barrancabermeja, the Gaula police unit utilized drones and tracking dogs to locate Duvier Asned Balaguera Zapata, alias ‘Galón’. Zapata had escaped from a police station in the Muelle sector on September 7, 2026. He is linked to extortion activities in the Magdalena Medio region, allegedly posing as a member of the ‘Los Búcaros’ criminal group to intimidate victims. Following his recapture, authorities have launched internal investigations into his previous escape.
In Barranquilla, the Dijín unit recaptured Jorge Luis Alfonso López, alias ‘El Gatico’, at a clinic. López, the son of entrepreneur Enilce López, had been released on parole in December 2023. His arrest is connected to the 1997 homicide of Guillermo Montero Carpio, the former president of the National Association of Peasant Users.
