Jori Lehterä announces retirement from HIFK
Veteran center Jori Lehterä has announced his retirement from professional hockey, leaving HIFK after playing only four games this season. Lehterä stated he decided to step away from the sport because he needs a ‘break,’ though he noted his mind could change in the future.
Lehterä’s departure comes at a difficult time for HIFK, which currently sits 15th in the Liiga standings. During his brief stint this season, he recorded 0+1 points and a -2 rating. Expert Pekka Virta suggested the sudden move might reflect underlying issues within the team, noting that if the team were performing well, such a departure would be unlikely.
In terms of immediate roster impact, HIFK will proceed with their upcoming match against Lukko without Lehterä. Iiro Pakarinen is expected to step into the second center role, while Tim Juelin will take over in goal.
